Let me take you back to a turning point in my life. In 2009, I made one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever faced: I parted ways with my closest friends and business partners. I started over, completely alone. That chapter was filled with pain, sleepless nights, and deep reflection. It’s also when I got my first grey hair—and a powerful wake-up call.
One night, I remembered a book my brother had once given me: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. Until then, reading outside of academic materials seemed unnecessary. But that night, something shifted. I opened the book—and it opened my mind.
One concept struck me like lightning: the Circle of Concern vs Circle of Influence. I realized I had been focusing on things beyond my control, instead of taking charge of what I could influence. That insight led me to one bold decision: to master business management.
I enrolled in an MBA and began applying every principle I learned. Along the way, I discovered the importance of having the right tools and the right people. I learned about Emotional Intelligence through Daniel Goleman’s work—but I still hadn’t found practical tools to teach and build those qualities in others.
So, I went searching.
I founded a technical training center, launched a Toastmasters club in my company, and traveled to Japan, South Korea, the U.S., Europe, the UAE, and across Africa—always asking: How can we help people become their best selves?
In 2016, I found something different. A friend invited me to a seminar on Emotions in the Workplace, and there I learned about the Emotional Tone Scale—a simple yet powerful tool that links behavior to emotional states. I was intrigued. I needed to know more.
That journey led me to Hubbard College of Administration in Los Angeles. I joined their Executive Program—and in just one month, I gained practical tools that changed how I lead, communicate, and make decisions.
The results?
By 2020, my company became the first indigenous licensed telecom infrastructure provider in Rwanda—an industry once dominated by multinationals. Four years later, we secured a private equity investment—becoming the first SME in Rwanda to achieve this level.
