Ethics Conditions – Overview with Graphs
How to determine the condition of a post using stat trends β€” and what to do about it

πŸ“Š What Are Ethics Conditions?

Ethics Conditions are not moral judgments β€” they are performance conditions based on how a person, post, or area is doing relative to its statistics.

L. Ron Hubbard developed a sequence of 12 conditions, each with a specific formula to apply depending on whether the stat is rising, falling, or doing worse.

This allows you to:

  1. Identify what condition someone is in
  2. Apply the correct formula to fix or maintain performance
  3. Coach staff using facts and formulas, not emotion

πŸ“ˆ The 12 Ethics Conditions (in order)

πŸ“‰ Low-Performance Conditions:

  1. Confusion – No order or orientation
  2. Treason – Pretending to be part of the team but not producing
  3. Enemy – Openly or covertly opposing the team
  4. Doubt – Undecided about one’s group or loyalty
  5. Liability – Recognizing you’ve been more of a burden than a help

⚠️ Recovery & Stable Conditions:

  1. Non-Existence – New to post or forgotten role
  2. Danger – Emergency mode, serious threats
  3. Emergency – Downtrend that needs quick reversal
  4. Normal – Steady upward performance

πŸš€ Expansion Conditions:

  1. Affluence – Rapid expansion
  2. Power – Long-term, stable high production
  3. Power Change – Passing control responsibly when stats dip

Each of these has a specific, practical formula (covered in Modules 5+).

🧭 What Determines a Condition?

Not emotions. Not opinions. Stat trends.

🧠 Why Conditions Work

They create personal responsibility.

  1. Staff stop blaming circumstances
  2. They take initiative to correct their own condition
  3. Managers guide instead of punish
  4. Productivity and morale increase

It’s a self-managing system when done right.

πŸ‘€ Emmanuel's Journey, Revisited

In Week 1, Emmanuel the technician is new β†’ his stat is 0 β†’ Condition: Non-Existence

If he doesn’t apply the formula (find out what’s needed, produce it), he may fall into Confusion

But if he builds up stats:

  1. Week 2: stat = 2 β†’ still building
  2. Week 3: stat = 5 β†’ improving β†’ Condition: Emergency or Normal
  3. Week 4: stat = 6 β†’ steady up β†’ Normal Condition

We now coach Emmanuel using formulas that match his stat trend.

βœ… What You Just Learned

  1. Conditions are performance levels based on stat trends
  2. Each condition has a formula for improvement or stability
  3. Graphs make conditions visible and coachable
  4. You don’t guess conditions β€” you determine them

πŸ› οΈ What You Can Do Next

  1. Review a few posts in your company
  2. Plot their weekly stat over 6 weeks
  3. Match the stat trend to the condition
  4. Ask: β€œIs this person applying the right formula for their condition?”

This becomes your new coaching conversation.
